The first chapter is full of nice organized tweaks to your D&D game to put a good formal system around how gods work in the setting in relation to both Clerics and society. That's neither good or bad, but an observation. Each subsequent chapter is a pantheon interpreted as D&D stats - the bizarre home brew of Gary Gygax's first campaigns, then some 'classic fantasy' real world myth structures, then some monotheistic ta That being said, there are four full pantheons in here and some cool info, so if you're into Planescape or want to use a setting with Norse or Egyptian gods, there's still a reason to have the book on your shelf.more Is your party seriously ever going to be battling 57th level enemies who can snuff out hundreds of mortal lives within a 15 mile radius every turn? This would have worked better like the the Forgotten Realms Faiths and Pantheons book if more of the text was devoted to the "fluff" info about the god, their church, and their schemes rather than the "crunch" of the numbers you'll never use. The big issue here is that its mostly stat blocks and feats, which is kind of pointless for deities. That really just increased the allure, so its no wonder I grabbed this as soon as I had the 30 bucks in hand, hah!ĭespite my fond memories of reading this over and over as a teen, sadly it doesn't actually hold up super well as a game supplement. Growing in a conservative Christian home, I was very much not allowed to play D&D in any way, so I had to hide to my books, especially stuff like this about various gods and religions. The This was one of the first third edition books I ever picked up. That really just increased the allure, so its no wonder I grabbed this as soon as I had the 30 bucks in hand, hah! Despite my fond memories of reading this over and over as a teen, sadly it doesn't actually hold up super well as a game supplement. This book (with or without the Cthulhu & Elric material) is the definitive book on deities for your AD&D games, and if you do not have it you really should get yourself a copy of it.This was one of the first third edition books I ever picked up. The scanning is good, the bookmarks work and the hyperlinks definitely help. I would like to see the price drop to maybe $4.99 across the board for the early edition stuff, but the market will take what it takes. Deities & Demigods costs $9.99 to purchase, that is however a lot cheaper than what you'll find on eBay or online retailers, if they have a copy.

This is meant as a pseudo review, so I won't get into that tangent. Anyway, I understand why they aren't doing POD, but I think they are sticking to an antiquated sales mode. Not that many retailers would probably do that. Retailers could easily set up an affiliate site of their own and take a cut of the sales. I think that is a mis-step, even if Wizards is doing that to make retailers happy. Unfortunately, the site will not offer POD versions of these books. I printed a page to see how it would look, and the quality was pretty good.

It is also fully OCRed and allows for copying and pasting of text out of the PDF and into your own documents. The Deities & Demigods book is fully bookmarked and it has a hyperlinked table of contents. Scanning technology has advanced a lot in the years since these materials were last available, and this PDF shows that.

This PDF is so much prettier than the ones that were previously offered. I'm not holding that fact against OBS or Wizards of the Coast, because they really did have the rights to publish. This PDF is a scan of the second printing, after the "offending" material was removed for copyright reasons. For those who were hoping that this PDF would be a scan of that original book, it is not. I'll just get this bit right out of the way. This brings me to the new Deities and Demigods PDF on the site.
